The Bonc

Golborne Park (The Bonc) Development Plan

This is our vision for the development of one of our few remaining green spaces. The Voice has been working hard in conjunction with Wigan Council, Greater Manchester City of Trees and local schools to bring this plan to fruition.

A lot of the work has been made possible by the Section 106 contribution from the building of new homes in our area. This will go a long way to constructing new pathways, accessible for all users. Section 106 monies will also be used for new play equipment and planting of ornamental plants in keeping with parks and gardens.

Planting of the trees begins 23rd and 24th November by City of Trees who are supplying over 800 specimens for our initial section of the Plan, including broad leaf native species. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, the schools who were due to take part at this critical stage are unable to participate. Future dates are to be arranged to involve them again.

Following Lockdown/Covid we intend to start a regular community volunteer day where we can all get together and continue the regeneration of the park. Our contact for this important ongoing work is Martin Smith who you can contact at smith_1@live.co.uk . Martin will be your contact for sorting the dates and times and also the workload, equipment etc.

Exciting times ahead for our community
