Byrom Hall Wood -  a very popular area of open access woodland owned by Forestry England, and part of Wigan Council Greenheart.  Accessible from Footpath 33 from Pennine Lane, Footpath 31 from Rothwell's Farm or alongside a rough track near Byrom Hall off Slag Lane.  There is a mile long, multi-user path round the wood  which is used by walkers, runners, cyclists and  horse riders, and many informal paths to explore.
